If any students at Fridley High School had forgotten that Dec. 22 was their last day for classes before the holiday break, they were reminded by their science teachers that they wouldn't be expected back until January. Students passed the high school science faculty singing and playing familiar Christmas tunes near where students leave the building each day to board their buses. The tunes were familiar, but some of the lyrics were different. For instance, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" became "The Twelve Days of Science" as part of the group's repertoire. Teacher Eric Gunderson spoke more about sharing this music, an annual tradition that has gone on for about 15 years. Some passing students dropped dollars and change into the festive top hat. Gunderson said the money would support a clothing drive that students at the school have organized for a Minneapolis shelter.

A first grade female student reported on Monday (Dec. 21) that she was followed into a bathroom and touched inappropriately by an adult male, whom she did not know. The incident reportedly occurred in late November or early December between classes at Wilshire Park Elementary School, located at 3600 Highcrest. The student described the man as a tall, white male, with a thin build, short dark brown hair, and no facial hair, and between 35 and 45 years old. She said he was wearing blue pants, with hearts on them, a white T-shirt, with dolphins in the middle and the word "hello" or "halo" on it, and an open sweater on top of the T-shirt with triangles, hearts and diamonds. According to St. Anthony Police, staff at the school also did not recognize the man's description, and it is yet unknown if the man was in the school legally or illegally. Anyone with information or tips regarding the incident or the man's identity should call the St. Anthony Police Department at 612-782-3350.

A 20-year-old New Brighton woman pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal vehicular homicide Dec. 22. Jacqueline Marie Wagner will be sentenced on Feb. 4, 2010, for the fatal crash, which occurred Aug. 23, 2009. She faces more than 4-and-a-half years in prison, according to the Ramsey County Attorney's office. According to a criminal complaint, St. Paul Police were dispatched to the area of University Avenue and Transfer Road on a report of drag racing, with several hundred spectators. When an officer arrived and activated the emergency lights of his marked squad car, Wagner took off at high speeds in a 2007 Honda Civic. The officer pursued the vehicle, but was not able to catch up before she ran a red light, at more than 60 miles per hour, and struck a vehicle at the intersection of University and Vandalia avenues. An eyewitness reported to police that the vehicle was struck and went airborne before crashing into a utility pole, breaking the pole. The driver of that vehicle, Moussa Ould Maayif, age 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.
