@james2470 No one is sticking a camera in anybody's face, some people enjoy photographing the equipment and workings of transit systems. If employees are so concerned about safety and doing their job properly, then they should focus on their assigned duty, not on taking the time to reprimand and argue with a photographer who was doing nothing wrong. I can't speak for everyone, but I agree that using a flash can cause safety issues, which is why I don't.

The only major rule we have in new zealand for taking videos/photos of trains is that if your are going to be filming in shunting yards or lineside where there is no road access (or so) then train control needs to be advised, otherwise, you can video/photograph trains from anywhere you want.
-
@othrower74 Well, in this case they have to change their policy because that is a public space isn't it? Put your time on helping people getting their freedoms back instead of supporting absurd laws.

I filmed on the T and MBTA back in July, I did get the same thing, one "motorwomen" even came out of the cab to yell at me! another conductor walking the whole train length just to yell at me and told me that I can't film any trains wheather I'm on MBTA property or not!
-
@jdgator95 Well actually you have to understand that it's still private property, and the key word in the policy is MAY, which means in English that they can allow you if they want to. If the MBTA employee doesn't want you to, then they don't have to give you permission. So sorry but I have to side with the MBTA. If you want to film their trains then you need to step away from their property and step onto public property, and be at least 100 feet away from the rails.
Actually if you read further in the policy it states that anyone taking picutres of any MBTA property has to have proper identification. Clearly you are taking pictures of their property. You can tell because the majority of your video shows the train. Now if you had just a small portion of the train it would be different. Try reading further into the policy before jumping down their throats.

@othrower74 Actually, I have read the policy, and I am aware of the identification rule. I carry my ID whenever I take pictures on the T and if anyone asked to see it I would show them. The thing is they've never done that, they just tell me to leave. I'm not jumping down anyone's throats, I have never argued or put up a fight when they told me to leave, even though they're wrong in doing so. Maybe THEY should read their own policy.

gator, I very much like your videos. This one is priceless. Honking, lights flashing -- ridiculous. I mean, what are the MBTA terribly afraid of, exactly? That you might document bad service?

@13beacon Thanks, it is mostly paranoia about terrorism.
