I've been searching for a great low-volume voxy amp, and I've finally found it with the Pathfinder 15R. Yes, it's solid state, and yes, it has an 8" speaker, and yes, it's less than $120, but I absolutely love this amp. Most of my pedals cost more than this amp, but I love it. It's not for everyone, but hopefully this video can give you an idea of how they sound. Please excuse the sloppy playing, I get really nervous in front of the camera and I mess up a lot. I realize I'm not a very good player, but hopefully this video helps someone in their quest for a good low-volume voxy amp.

Even though they sound like they're blasted full volume, they're not much louder than bedroom volume. If you listen carefully, you'll hear my pick on my strings, so they're not super loud.

The vox pathfinder doesn't sound quite as good as my ac15, so for recording I use the tube amp. For just about everything else I use the pathfinders. They're about 90% of the tone of my ac15. At bedroom volumes the pathfinders sounds even better than the ac15. The ac15 likes to get the power tubes cooking before it starts to really sing.

These pathfinders sound so good that I gig them in stereo since they're so light and great sounding. Plus the venues I play don't let me turn my AC 15 up much.

Sorry for the blatant overuse of delay.

Recorded with my little Sony handycam, so it sounds even better in real life.

Amps in the background (not in use) VOX AC15H1TVL and /13 CJ11.

Pedals - fulldrive 2 (non mosfet), cs fulldrive 2 (non mosfet), damage control timeline delay.

Guitar - MJT Mark Jenny Allparts tele. p90 in neck, nocaster bridge pup.

  • holy moly! i love your original at the beginning of the video! good stuff man. what are you using for that pad sound at the beginning? DL4? what setting?

edit....sorry just read the description. damage control timeline

  • @dubox37 Hey thanks, I really appreciate it. Our band never gained much traction here locally, and we broke up. I'm recording that song. I'll be sure to post a link up when it's done.

That damage control timeline is an incredible pedal. I've owned the DL4 and the M13 before, and I just clicked with the timeline. Mine's for sale if you're interested...

  • Great video, thanks for posting. Those amps sound surprisingly great! I used to have a lil' pathfinder with just tremolo and I think you may have inspired me to pick up the Pathfinder 15r. And I love your tele/voxy combo - can't go wrong there! Rock on bro! P.s. my wife is a byu alum ;)

  • @Bobbybookoo Right on! Thanks for saying hi.

  • hi, so have you ever gig with this amp? did you mic it or was it loud enough?

  • @RayVerquilla I've done both. Most venues I play at mic my amps, but want a super quiet stage volume, so these are my go-to for those conditions. This amp is plenty loud enough for my needs.
