If you're engaged in urban combat in Iraq or Afghanistan, the Cold Steel OSS will provide you with a wickedly effective defensive blade should you need one... and you just might. Don't underestimate the need for one: the history of even modern combat is replete with stories of how a large fixed blade saved troops' lives. At just 13.2 oz when configured with a Tek-Lok fastener, the OSS offers unparalleled reach and speed for a blade of this size. More importantly it won't kill your load out. The thermoplastic sheath retains well, the 420 (or AUS8) steel keeps an edge, and the kraton handle is grippy and will prevent forward slides during a plunge cut. The Tek-Lok is a necessary addition to make the extraction one-hand capable and to prevent sheath migration on your LBE. I wouldn't recommend this knife to mounted troops as it will interfere with vehicle dismount. Also it is more of a purpose built fighter with limited utility applications. However if you're pounding dirt and your propensity of having a deadly encounter is HIGH, then you should make an OSS your traveling companion. At this price AND weight, few knives can match its ferocity.//////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10, 2011 flat ground San Mai III OSS: 10 out of 10

  • @HunterKiller308 Read Contemporary knife targeting by michael janich, he tells you more than i ever could.

The shortest way to put it across to you is, Lethal strikes with a knife are Not instantaneous, heck even with a gun the only "one shot stops" are all to Nervous targets and you Cannot hit those in a knife fight. Your best options for instant stops are disabling targets, cause when you cut all the muscles and tendons in someones forearm, they INSTANTLY cannot use that hand. End of story

  • @Kylef7735 LMFAO

you think i cant hit someone in the nose in a fight? cant hit them in the back of the head or under the chin in a fight? your dead wrong, put a blade in that same hand and its hitting your brain. you dont have a clue what your talking about, telling people its better to maime the person doing you harm than ending the threat as soon as it starts. keep your BS to yourself

  • @HunterKiller308 You are living in a fantasy world if you will believe any of that can be accomplished in a fight. What...are you expecting your target to stand there and let you do all that? The way you talk its like youve only ever encountered stationary targets, i would love to see you try to do all these moves against a live body. All of them are pinpoint targets, while the major muscle and tendon groups are very large targets, easier to strike.

  • @HunterKiller308 everything i just noted is a kill shot, and i will be delivering as many of them as i can as fast as i can, you go ahead kid, take out an arm or a leg, ill take out your life. on a side note a long, wide bladed kinfe like the OSS is far more damaging than any handgun bullet in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, knows how to twist and rip the blade when its inside you, carving massive wound channels in your organs

  • @Kylef7735 You dont have a clue what your talking about kid. You thing someone cant get in close and slide a blade between your vertebrae or the base of the skull at the nape of the neck? stabbing up under the chin, busting through your pallet and into your brain with no bone to stop it. you can put a blade through the nasal cavity, a direct line to the brain with no bone to stop it. how about pushing your blade up under the sternum and ripping it side to side, totally destroying heart and lungs

  • @HunterKiller308 You do not know much about knife fighting.

In knife fighting, because you cannot reach the CNS (Brain or spine) the most effective Instant stop targets are actually joints and major muscle groups (forearms, biceps, behind the calf and knee, front of thighs, back of thighs) because when you slice someones tendons and ligaments, their use of that arm or leg is instantly gone, even with the most devastating wounds to vital organs, when its done with a blade, it is not instant.

  • @Kylef7735 lethal strikes are not a good first choice? what are you talking about, they are the only choice.

why do think a blade cant go through and arm and a pec? meat is meat, as long as you dont hit bone that thing is sinking to the hilt

  • @HunterKiller308 See thats not gonna need 12 inches (and also in a blade fight lethal strikes are not a good first choice)

What the fbi is considering is like going through an arm, and a pectoral muscle, and then vitals, that isnt going to happen with a blade.

  • @Kylef7735 how to you figure? if i stab you in the side i want a blade long enough to tickle your heart or lungs

  • @HunterKiller308 They were accounting for every possible angle, like if you were shooting through as much flesh as possible before reaching vitals.

Fighting with a knife is a TOTALLY different proposition.
