I didn't mean it was laughably slow, it was just funny to hear it in German. But the directors wanted us to play it faster, so we did. It actually works really well, especially since the contrast with the parts where you hit a rallentando becomes greater. And no one ever does anything as they're "supposed to" in musical theater. Well that's a gross overstatement but anyways people make changes to shows every time they put them on.

I played drums in the orchestra for a production at college. When I heard this version in German I nearly pissed myself laughing. They play it so slowly.
