It could have been shipped that way or he could have had a ThinkPad name badge sitting around.
You can purchase them off eBay. Search eBay for thinkpad badge and you'll find it. They're like 2 bucks.

I'm an incoming college freshman in the fall and I am interested to buy a tablet PC. I wish to use it for note-taking and for outdoor activities. I'm in a crossroads of either choosing a HP tx2500 or a Lenovo X61. They both sound good. But what would you guys recommend? Thanks

As a suggestion, I think people will actually be most interested in the behavior and responsiveness of the Tablet functions. So it might have been better to show that first and foremost...
