I have a theory on why contemporary Christmas songs don't stick - music's more diversified now than it was say 30 years ago when songs did seem to stick. Maybe not music in general terms, but the diversity of "popular" music has almost certainly increased, making it harder for any song of a particular genre to be a classic. Maybe?
