Channel 7 broadcast from the 2nd Gaelic Test in 1986 between Australia and Ireland. This match took place at VFL Park.

I am looking for VFL (and VFA) footage pre 1990.

  • what is vfl?

  • VFL stood for Victorian Football League, which is now the Australian Football League, and was the main Australian football competition at the time of these games in 1986 and supplied most of the Australian players in these exhibition matches.

  • I also have the 3 games played between Ireland and Australia in Ireland late in 1984 which I will upload soon.

  • I've just spent he last hour reading comments from ozzies and irish alike talking about how each team are apparently faggots from what they see on the videos. I think all those guys and the players can take a lesson from these guys in how the game should be played, with skill and technique not ripping each other around the pitch for no reason other then to show how tough each side is.......

  • the series when the aussies came over just to scrap was 1 of the biggest disgraces i have ever seen in sport

  • @bohemiansfc07 which one? there was so many of them.

  • @respontaneous I've played against two of the Irish panel. Fit lads and can kick scores from way out - but not the biggest. Seems to be the theme this time

  • @ZZKe7 well i hope it's a good game, it'll be televised at 10am here and there's a few players from my team playing so i'll be right into it

  • @respontaneous It was a composite team of two local colleges. I was talking to people who were there and they said the lack of cohesion was obvious but even still, the aussie defending much be much better than previous years cos some of those lads can send the ball over from 45 yards and they obviously didn't get the chance

  • @ZZKe7 as for the team, i just saw the score which is incredible, but i don't follow the sport much so i don't know how that team fairs in it's own comp, and it'll be against the best of the best so we'll see

  • @ZZKe7 i just think if ablett wanted to go play over in ireland, then he should have been able to, but a few weeks after announcing his signing with Gold Coast, he was no longer an option just in case the poster boy for the Suns gets injured over there, which i think is a bunch of crap

  • @respontaneous So you reckon it was a bit of a slap on the wrist to him? Jeez that's harsh. On me I mean! I was lookin forward to seeing him.

Was talkin to people who were at that warm up game. They reckon it's the best Aus team they've seen.

  • @ZZKe7 sounds fishy to me, im pretty sure he was keen on playing international rules, but now that he signed up with Gold Coast Suns, there was "no more room for Ablett", im not a big fan of Demetriou's recent work

  • @respontaneous No, and we don't get to see the young lad either. Still, you never know how someone will adapt to the compromise game.

  • @ZZKe7 oh ok, i knew he was all-australian at 22, but i didn't know he played international rules, what about ablett snr?
