Glass pipes are not a good comparison to gas because people will stop buying pipes if the price is too high. For people whose only option is driving a car, they must buy gas. I use public transportation and do not feel so bad about it right now thanks to these gas prices. but what I am mad about is that companies will use this excuse to raise the prices on all products because it is more expensive to transport them. it'll only cut into their profits, not make them go out of business
It's tough, but personal responsibility does have its virtues. Most of the rest of the world (and me as well) ride the bus in every day, how is your whining about $60 to fill your Hummer making you somehow special.
"Misery loves company". Misery can get on the bus and pay honest prices for honest goods like the rest of us.
I don't know where you live, but here in Schwarzenegger's California we have limited public transportation (how I miss Manhattan) and since we got f'd by Enron, he failed to balance the budget and now is going to cut everything, especially public transport. So much for going green!
I'd say, the "large scale system" is the problem. We wouldn't need anyone elses oil otherwise.Americans can not fathom the amount of innocent lives wasted so that they could have their American Dream. This all starting with the massacre of the original American population, the history of which is, even today, hidden from our children's sight.
Did he say Dinosaurs died so we could have OIL? Here all along I though it was a meteorite that caused their deaths. This guy is nuts. The government CAN do something about the price of gas but why should they? Bush & Chaney are both oil tycoons.
Every European country with socialized health care is moving towards privatization. Don't take my word for it. Check it out. In fact, America is seen by the global community as moving backwards in regard to health care. Please don't take my word for it. France, England, Germany--all moving towards privatization BECAUSE their health care has been deemed inferior and their citizens are dissatisfied. Again, don't take my word for it. Check it out.
Is there any economic model without consequences? Is there any large scale, non-capitalist model that has TRULY flourished without subjugating some other aspect of its citizens' lives? I'm seriously asking. I agree capitalism has consequences. I'm just interested to hear your alternative.

Wow, so strange to hear you speak without an accent, Caleb. :) But you're still as entertaining.

Alternatives to whining about gas prices:
Public transport
Moving out of your farm-covering McMansion
Living within your means

If the government subsidizes oil prices, then that's MORE of our tax dollars going to the oil companies.
