  • Ralph Burns' lovely ballad from '48...and the words later added by master Mercer are superb. Besides Woody, singer Tierney Sutton has an unusual uptempo take that works well. Mr. B also offered a great rendition from '52. However, this Shearing version is from the '61 LP Satin Affair, not the 1958 album shown here.

  • Thank you for the info!

Concerning the photo/album shown here...I've just inserted the first photo which came up on google. I will try to put correct photos in the future!

  • Brilliant. Thank you.

  • My pleasure!

  • In the late 1950's I was in the AF and Shearing came to the college near our base,

and I approached him to inquire if he would permit me to record his program.

He paused, then said "I would love it if you could, BUT my musicians are all in the

Union, and I also work with Capitol records, it is kinda out of the question. I want

to thank you for asking and I hope you enjoy our program" !! What kind of a

gentleman are we talking about? One of a kind, the world misses him.

  • the guy below me deserves thumbs up for the story

  • One of the smoothest recordings I have ever heard..Fantastic

  • @pauldquam1 : My own personal Shearing encounter is posted along with yours under "Early Autumn". I wanted never to wash the hand he shook.

  • I was first in line to meet Sir George at an after-concert reception (U of U - 1959). He was sitting, hadn't quite finished a cup of tea, but set it down and actually started to stand for the introductions to begin ! Humility and ultimate class. I was only too honored in bowing to take his hand. Only fitting he had such a long and productive...nay, inspirational life.

  • one of Shearing's finest...absolutely love this, thanks for the post!!

  • @Marko33 i was also thinking that the sound and quality was remarkably incredible for a live ^^ thank you for the sound though, don't know what i would do without great uploaders like you...
