It was Easter morning, and I was asked to play the 1st movement of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto at the last minute. All I had was my C trumpet. While it was a scary experience to play by memory and transposing, I have to admit, it sort-of worked on C trumpet better than I thought it would... besides the trills of course.

  • Whether or not you prepared this transposition or was reading the music, I don't care. You still played it very very well. Beautiful tone!

  • Thanks for posting that video. you have the most beautiful and controlled tone. i am a trumpet player in only my third year and i hope i make it as far as you did. Thank you! you are a real trumpet master.

  • @pulcinella55 Did you even read the info? It was last minute and all he had was his C. My recommendation to you would be to read before you comment.

  • wow. all i can say is wow!

    you are absolutely amazing.

  • wow being a trumpet player myself seeing something like this transposed on the spot is very impressive.

  • @oilikepepsi What's so hard about memorizing it? I had to memorize all three movements for an audition once. After playing it a few thousand times, it's not exactly "impossible".

  • Ack...not having a Bb trumpet makes this horrendously difficult to play. I just found the fingerings with a Bb to be much more natural. Good on you for taking the challenge. Considering, you did a great job.

  • Chris, you are exceptionally talented! But why would you post this Haydn performance on YouTube playing on a "C" trumpet? The trills are clumsy, at best, and the intonation problems with the 3rd space open "c's" and open "e's" are too noticeable to experienced musicians. My recommendation to you would be to record the Haydn on your Schilke E-flat and replace this organ rendition with something you will be proud of and give you an opportunity to share with the public your true God given gifts.

  • I like your articulation. A lot like Maurice Andre.

  • Ok, Whats up with organ?

  • hahaha ah yes....the trills were interesting :)

Pretty amazing that you could play that confidently and sound that great when transposing at the last second!

Intonation was close to perfect as well.
