Here is a weed eater 25 cc engine modified to run on steam or air. It is controlled by a PIC 18F custom computer board, programmed in CCS "C". Timing signals are derived from two Hall Effect sensors positioned around the
flywheel. The PIC determines inlet and exhaust timing as well as gas flow duration based upon RPM...the real time RPM is calculated per revolution and displayed...all timing is adjustable on the fly in 1 ms increments using the four buttons. Two 12 vdc cheap air solenoids are driven by the PIC via power MOSFET devices. The exhaust valve is necessary to allow very low RPM operation and easy starting. It will run on 5-50 psig air/steam from about 100-1000 RPM and is a single-acting engine. Faster valves ($$) would allow faster operation! Feel free to contact me for details/code. Thanks for watching-stay Green With Steam!!
