Pulling another vintage trick out of his spacious trick-bag, one-man band Willis P. Jenkins walks us through the Yamaha SK-20 Poly-Synth. Now it's a bass! Now it's an organ! Now it's something for Jenkins to do with his left hand so he doesn't get bored! Remember, you saw it here first!

  • the organ section is in fact part digital

  • wow thanks... yer right, and i had no idea it worked that way. to think i've had it for so many years and always avoided the strings except to add little more depth to certain organ sounds! weird setup, but great to know.

    cheers!

  • The string section sort of works under the poly synth section (but they have 7-note polyphony of their own). If you switch on the ensemble-effect for the poly synth, it will be applied to the strings too. Both these sections also output from the same idvividual output (poly synth), but you should use the MIX output to hear the ensemble, I think.

You can't have the tremolo on organ and ensemble on synth at the same time.

  • @tepposal really? how? mine only has ensemble buttons for organ and poly-synth! and in this video i can see that his does too! the button and slider array match mine spot-on. i'd love to unlock the secret features if you can tell me how :)

  • It works on my SK20... ;)

  • @tepposal you actually can't apply the ensemble sound to the string section... sadly

  • Nice, but you didn't demo the best feature of the SK20 - the ENSEMBLE effect!

That's what makes the strings section sound the coolest thing around! Otherwise it's just simple saw wave.

You can apply the ensemble effect to all sections of the SK20.
