Montreal saxophonist and composer Joel Miller reflects on having his life turned on its ear by the arrival of his first daughter, Liv. Seeing the world through Liv's eyes has profoundly altered the way Miller thinks of his music; bringing a new wide-eyed simplicity and frank sincerity to his playing and listening.

This change is palpable to even the most casual listener, and has resulted in a recording that is bristling with the myriad details of virtuosity, yet simple and soulful enough to grab the heart with an immediate and compelling grip.

Miller muses, "you know it's funny when friends of mine ask, 'so what are you in to checking out these days, Ravi Coltrane, Mark Turner?' Well... I just listen to Pete Seeger now... or nursery rhymes!"

The band is rounded off by some of the hottest players on the scene. New York pianist Geoffry Keezer and drummer Greg Ritchie team up with Montreal bassist Fraser Hollins to deliver a seamless, steaming jaunt through Miller's emotionally vibrant compositions. The music connects, as do Miller and his 9 month old daughter Liv, who makes her debut on camera.

Liv's mother, and Joel's wife, is Canadian saxophone phenom Christine Jensen (sister of New York based virtuoso trumpeter Ingrid Jensen) making this musical family a rare and heady Jazz gumbo for little Liv to grow up in. Miller is happy for his daughter to decide for herself how music will fit in her life. "Whatever she does, whether she goes into music, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want her to be happy".
