Sandy Springs GA was the first new city in the state in nearly 150 years. How did they do it, without raising taxes? They "reinvented" the model for local governement. Freedom Watch on Fox Business News tells the story.

As for selling public assets Sandy Springs was a new town with no assets to sell. They didn't buy them either so they didn't create debt. A great way to start a town and keep government under control. sell

The New York Times ran a story on Sandy Springs in June and they are still out sourcing most everything. It is working, even after six years.. Jench78 has a legitimate concern but it hasn't happened. Voters tend to reelect local government officials who support a town that works. It takes good people, they must have them.

And that would work out great, if there were good, honest, people controlling the bids and sales of these properties, but it's government "officials", so there will most likely be corruption. And what if they just sell the property and building that we all paid for, and turn it into a Walmart. That wouldn't benefit hardly anyone. Like I said, I believe in the free market, but there's more to it than Peter Schiff and other Austrians talk about.

I'd be curious to see if, over time, the success of this place will breed apathy and a creeping back towards a more socialized system.

selling our government land or buildings would help pay for the debt. Plus that is how we will have to privatize things

I love the judge, and believe in the free market, however, this could also be propaganda for us to accept "austerity", and the selling off of our public assets, that we all already payed for, through our taxes.
