The first time I saw Kurt was with Gary Burton. He looked 12. I think he was 17 or so. He played slowly, almost haltingly, but his note selection was SO HIP. Now he's turned into this beacon for guitar players. He's so ...musical. I saw himmost recently with just a bassist and drummer - and he just played standards for 2 sets and completely reshuffled my deck. One

of the most memorable guitar trio dates I can remember - ever.
