  • Did'nt they use the double deck rattlers (colored grey past 1993) until about 2003? I remember going on the double deck ones when I was in grade 1 (im now in grade 7). Happy memories!

  • The Tullochs (after all, thats what you're referring to) aren't actually "rattlers", they were the first generation of DD cars. Being trailers they were used in combination with the red sets for many years prior to the single deckers' withdrawal.

  • @zordmaker The Tullochs were my FAVOURITE trains as a kid, and i remember towards the end of their days they used to use both the tullochs and the comengs as part of the one train and i'd always run for the tullochs! Open windows, old feel to it, it had character - as did the sexy rattlers i grew up with.

  • Waiting for the train I loved watching the old red's coming around the bend from Birrong to Yagoona ....so much so I still occasionally dream about it.

    Is that sad?

My psycologist doesn't seem to think so.

Sure the rain would come in a little and they did have a few problems breaking in the wet BUT you could open the windows all the way up and hang out the doors as you went over a bridge!

The seats were great to screw on too.

  • though incidentally the founder of Bridgeclimb Paul Cave i think his name was got the idea of Bridgeclimb because his Father-In-Law kept a ticket from the first red rattler thet crossed the Habour Bridge

  • at least the red rattlers had what later build of trains i.s the S,R and L didn't a dead man's handle like the trains of London Underground but i remember riding on the red rattlers when i was a kid travelling to the city on one the shutter in the carriage i was in well rattled but still they were as vintage as the steam locomotives of the period

  • I used to lived near the Tullochs Railway Workshops in Rhodes NSW. I lived at Concord NSW only a few kilometers away where it all started.

  • there are some red rattlers that can be seen from the train window between redfern and macdonaldtown, in the enmore yards... now they are all rusting away lol

  • Even though they were abandoned

  • I remember riding the Red rattlers when I was in 1st Grade and that was 7 years ago .. I rode them and they were fast!

  • yep, the tullochs
