**DISCLAIMER: This information is not a substitute for actual training. If you own, use, and/or carry a handgun, I encourage you to get professional training with it.**

Thanks to my Youtube friend ZombieTactics, I finally got some professional firearms training in the form of a four-day defensive handgun course at Front Sight, Nevada. Filming is not allowed at Front Sight, but I documented what I learned by taking pictures each day, and recording a video journal of the day's activities each night. You probably won't learn any new, groundbreaking tactics as I share my experience, but I hope this series of videos will give you a good preview of what you're in for if you decide to visit Front Sight, Nevada.

This is my report from Day 1, and all the basics I was taught that day.

Watch and subscribe to ZombieTactics for some of the finest, most entertaining and informative tactical philosophy videos on Youtube.

  • You should NEVER be suprised by the shot breaking! Never! Firing the shot is a conscious act. Get involved in a self-defense shooting and have the opposing attorney hear you talk about being "suprised" the shot went off and you're toast!

  • @Steve5404 I think you missed the point. I'm talking about how to be accurate with shot placement. If you anticipate the shot, you tend to jerk the trigger and place your shot badly.

  • Thanks for the review. I went last year, and thought it was amazing. Your video helped refresh me on some the stuff I had forgotten. Did you stay at Saddle West or Best Western?

  • @ckiefer045 Thanks! I stayed at Saddle West.

  • It's always good to coach and be coached. It's crazy what you learn when you are placed in a teacher roll.

  • @ScoutsNOA Those who teach learn twice. :)

  • @Steve5404 This is not what the concept of a suprise break means. It's more a part of the trigger press technique and doesn't mean that you are surprised at all by the weapon firing.

Hopefully if you do shoot someone in self defense you will have a competent attorney and he will see that this does not happen.

The trigger press technique is too long to explain here and I'm going to try and send you a separate e-mail and a video I've made.

  • I used to shoot with a grip like what Front Sight teaches. I have with in the past year changed the position of both thumbs where they are pointing more forward.

Great recap brother, I'm sure that this also helped you to digest much of what you learned each day.

  • Nice job on the course! Can't wait to check out the rest of the series!

  • Nice Basspro hat
