The thing you have to keep in mind, in spite of what the BBC seems to think, Ray Mears isn't so much about "Survival" as he is Bushcraft. Mears is certainly capable of "Survival" teaching, but most of what he'll show you is Bushcraft, which tends to involve more man made objects. (Nylon cordage for example).
Mears REALLY knows his stuff, and he is completely able to do "survival" techniques, but again, this is Bushcraft...
