Carnival Cruise Lines built the World's Largest Piñata at Broad and Washington. A horde of people converged on the scene drawn by the lure of fame and candy. As is their wont the motorcycle squad of the Philadelphia Police also made their way to the parking lot. Tons of candy were crushed underfoot by the many revelers, a mobile jib crane fitted with a papier mache wrecking ball, dozens of people who were working on a TV commercial, an employee of the Guinness book of World Records and at least four cherry pickers.

The crowd was, buy and large very good natured, especially considering that so many of them waited on the sidewalk for hours after they had been expecting to get in to the parking lot holding the giant piñata.

Unable to gain entry to the film set we snuck through a hole in the fence. Some of my friends made fun of us for breaking into a free event, but the fact was that they didn't really let everyone in who was there, presumably for safety reasons.

What transpired a savvy Philadelphian could have guessed, but I didn't until it was too late...

Too bad the police couldn't work something out to allow this to happen. It's been a tough year for Philly cops, loosing four officers in the line of duty, but I gotta say that I wish they'd been a bit more concerned about stopping people turning cars and tearing up trees last week and left the Pinata crew alone. It's embarrassing for Philadelphia as a film and TV location.

Music is "I Want Candy" by the Strangeloves. (original version of the Bow Wow Wow hit from 1956)

  • William, we are the City of Brotherly Love, and we love you despite your obvious emotional, social, and mental disabilities. Come and visit any time.

  • no mexicans inside the Trojan horse?

  • A repulsive metaphor, Booze, at least to people who are repulsed by racism, but also curious--and reversed--on another level...

The real Trojan horse isn't people trying to get into the USA for the alleged privilege of having our lowest paid jobs. The actual dazzling horse is the supposed offering of our advanced and western ways of doing things. Inside are the forces of corporate exploitation that are currently ruining less developed nations.

  • WE BROKE IT TODAY (HIRED ACTORS)
