  • I don't think she would have agreed to go on without a cigarette.

  • Bette knew she wasn't a typical Hollywod beauty by the standards back then. She fought for roles that would be memorable. Joan was very vain and as she grew older her looks hardened. Bette was confident in the fact she had theatrical back ground and good morals where Joan Crawford came from white trash and took glamour to the extreme. She looked better in B&W films compared to Color. Bette 1st layed Queen Elizabeth I in color back in 1938 and looked great. JC didnt make her 1st color until 1953

  • true...but they had tape that was attached to there hair line to pull the skin back on there face and the elastic band attached to the tape that was placed on there tempels (for an eye lift) was hidden under there wig.

  • You know, watching it now, it does not not whether Bette Davis had or did not have a face lift. Now, the face lift business is in high demand, sadly. But before plastic surgery in the 30s and 40s(Joan and Bette's era), there was hairpieces for women(all ages), bleached hair that killed some hair cells that never grew back, stenciled eyebrows, heavy makeup in demand to hide skin flaws, etc. There was no such thing as a face lift in those days.

  • Umm, Bette had a face lift too. And the young will deal with it like every generation. Some will go kicking and screaming and some will age with grace.

  • To atawataw: Yeh, I'm old enought to remember when almost all guests ot "talk shows" smoked....especially the old Johnny Carson Show. At one time smoking was a very socialable thing to do. In fact my parents were the only people I knew that did not smoke. Back then if you were not a smoker it was considered a little odd. People smoked in hospitals, in class at collage, on busses & trains. When I used to visit my relatives at Christmas it was like the house was fillled with fog from all the smoke

  • Both Bette and Joan really were original in their personalities and I admire the work and determination of these two ladies...someday our teenagers looking at Facebook and Myspace will have to come to terms with growing old. How will the new generations cope with aging if all of their idols are getting their faces stuffed with botox and facelifts?

  • I't funny to watch someone smoke on tv!!

  • Bette Davis was my idol, the has never been nor will ever be an actress or woman like Bette....

  • burt reynolds said bette called joan a bitch, but i've never heard bette actually say bad things about joan.
