1997 Silverado with 5.7L Vortec CSFI. All stock internals. K&N Filter. Flowtech Shorty headers, stock head pipes, magnaflow cats, true dual 2.5" cat-back, no h-pipe/x-pipe, Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, dumped at the corners (as you can see). Pretty quiet at idle and not very loud with revs but nice rumble.

Its a nice cool 97 degrees out and 63% humidity on this lovely late spring day in southeast Texas. Not that hot? Not really but its only 10am.

Hope yall like the vid. This was shot with a digital camera, so its not HD or anything. I didn't want to be like those guys that are like "I'm gonna stick my cell phone right next to the tip so its crappy quality AND you can't hear a damn thing, so its really gonna suck but I'm gonna post it on Youtube anyway, durrr!"

  • Update: I changed from the Super Turbos to Dynomax Race Bullets a few months after this vid. I couldn't hear the turbos from inside, so I had to change. I also dusted off an old hypertech progammer and tuned for more power, higher rpm limiter, different shift points, and harder shifts. Thanks to the hypertech, i was getting 14.5 to 15 mpg. I now get 17+mpg even when hot rodding it.

  • i have a 1997 sierra 350 and i was looking at flowtech shorty smog headers, how do you like yours and would recommend them??? and HP gain, sound change??? and any problems leaking or cracking?

  • @youdragon I installed my headers by myself in an afternoon. They bolt right up no need to grind the P/S bracket. The factory head pipe studs took a 3/8 impact to remove and the pipe at the back of driver side manifold is a pain to get the threads started. I noticed a little more power and a slightly throatier sound. You MUST spend the extra for ceramic coated, they last much longer and look better than painted and dont forget to torque the header bolts again after a month or so to prevent leaks

  • i got a 98 1500 i want to put headers on did you notice any difference? and with the high flow cats did your check engine light come on? thanks

  • @fordgtrcr There is a slight difference in sound and power, as the stock manifold is pretty restrictive. I did have a problem with catalyst efficiency codes when I had high flows on it. Now it has heavier cats, similar to factory cats, and it throws no codes.
