hey man. i dont know if u you remember me. im the bari sax guy. just wanted to let you know that i made state three weeks ago on bari, my name is actually maurice, im from south texas. i hope to see you at TMEA next week man.

Thanks, I hope I make this year too. Im a junior, the three people who beat me were seniors, so hopefully i'll play with you next year. so did you learn jazz on your own? or with a sax teacher?

@michohv I started in 7th grade where I played a transcription and learned the very basics of improv. I've worked on jazz in my sax lessons since then: basically just glancing over prewritten transcriptions and listening to what teachers had to say. i've never actually done a transcription. i learned by listening to teachers and recordings. i'm just lucky in that i can absorb it pretty well. i have to say, i am where i am today because of great instruction.

yeah congrats on that. I tried out and got 4th on bari sax, but hopefully ill make it this year on classical.you sound great man.

@michohv Thanks a lot, man! 4th is pretty great, I got 5th last year and something like 14th the year before (the same school year that this video was recorded), but if you have another chance to audition I bet you'll get it! I wish you all the best on your way to the state band this year. What grade are you in?

Pretty nice man! I kinda failed at all state auitions:l I auditioned on alto this year and made 12th, but that's not to shabby for a sophomore right?
