BA Flight 2069 - Hijack

On the 28th December 2000 a man broke into the cockpit of flight BA 2069 (London to Nairobi)

The man attacked the cabin crew and tried to crash the plane.

It was only due to the heroics of the Captain and his crew that the plane did not crash.

This video is made up from footage shot on the plane & computer simulations of the flight path - complete with Captain William Hagan's commentary.

I was the Captain of this flight. I have retired this month , and am very happy to give a 1 hour presentation of this flight, at a suitable event (e.g. after dinner or aviation training). It includes the full background to the event, the profile, and my thoughts and actions during the 3 minutes. The presentation is called "What's behind the locked cockpit door?". Dear Mr Ferry. I know Bill very well as I used to work with him regularly. He told me the story several times but only after me harrasing him for it. He has always been very modest about the whole episode. He also told me what went through his mind when he finally decided to gauge the mans eyes. But thats not for the whole world to know. Bill is now coming to an end of an illustrious carreer. A star of a man and one of my finests colleagues.

I was on this flight. I had no idea it was this bad, because I had just woken up and was still half asleep. All I remember thinking was "man this is some bad turbulence!" My video camera was under my seat, I sure wish I was filming it!

My parents were on this flight, on their way to visiting my sister and family in Nairobi who were doing missionary work in the slums out there. Very emotional watching this video as you really get a feel for what they went through in those few minutes. They just held each other's hands and said The Lord's Prayer. Thank you to the pilot, co-pilot and all the wonderful people who saved everyone on that flight. X
