BTW, what I didn't know that day is that Horowitz avoided giving his autograph. Everyone was waiting but he never came out after the concert. I was a scared 18 year old when I met him surrounded by his entourage backstage. He was sitting in a chair smoking a cigarette. I walked away with 2 autographed programs. I was on a mission. I was lucky. My persistence with security paid off.

@jon44718 You'll be eating your words when you are 75. The new generation doesn't have this level of talent...nor will they be in his league when they are 75. This man can play:-) I saw him live. My mom was suppose to be a concert pianist so I grew up listening to classical & she loved Horowitz. I am one of the few people that ever got him to autograph his program after a concert. Security let me through & I met Horowitz backstage. The autograph was for my mother. It was mother's day.

An historical record to be sure of a very famous artist, but why does the sound resemble 1938 instead of 1978? Can only assume it's an American TV broadcast, they have always been of unbelievably poor quaity.
I have never heard so many "wrong notes" and been so emotional. To see a 75-year old man play with such depth and ease is a miracle that will not soon be repeated. Bravissimo Maestro.

It is a great performance. There are still details Horowitz puts in that no one else does. Lots of wrong notes, but who cares? None are important. And it is frankly remarkable to see a 75-year old pianist play a concerto like this, using almost no pedal no less. Best part at 3:50. Fist pump.
Horowitz is responsible for this concerto's popularity, and he makes the case for why it is great music.
