Disagree with this review. It ain't THAT bad.
As an adult sure, there are many things that doesn't make any sense, such as giving the key to the door that causes the catastrope in this movie to a random kid, but its just a boy's adventurous dream at the end. There are many potential symbolisms in the movie.
I think the intro shows how fun and scary a dream can be. Could be a happy dream at one moment, and a hell-hole in another.
But then again, maybe I'm over-analyzing. lol
