it it indeed very old guys, but the European s have fine-tuned it beyond anything known in North America

@JackStitch Polish and Czech style nymphing is just short line highsticking. That technique has been around since Ted Towendolly did it on the upper sacramento river in california in the 30s and 40s. He taught Ted Fay and Ted fay taught the venerable Joe Kimsey, whose probably about 80 now. They used heavy flies like czech nymphs, they even later on used high vis line(amnesia) to track the leader with.

euro nymphing is nothing new. Just a reinvention of the wheel. Read some of Joe Humphries books from the 70's and you will see the same style. And you dont need a 10ft rod to do it

And I live in a area of sweden and fished a similar tecnique (way before) since I was young. We didnt call it anything we just had to use it to catch the non rising trout and grayling...

Actually, GolferCZ, "Euro Nymphing" isn't a misnomer. Vladi Trzebunia of Poland developed the "Polish Nymphing" technique which he won the world fly fishing championships with in 1992 by compiling more points then the next three teams' combined totals. The method was hijacked by the Czechs and others. Czech Nymphing is the current slang...though not developed by the Czechs. Stick to Golf Homie!
