Chairman of the National Geographic Committee for Research and Exploration, Dr. Peter Raven, talks about National Geographic's 10,000 grants over more than a century to extend knowledge about earth, sea and sky. A distinguished botanist, Raven also talks about the importance of plants, how humans depend on them for food and medicine, and why it's important to study them. And he gives advice to young explorers and scientists about what National Geographic is looking for when it makes its grants.
