Took the .243 Surgeon Scalpel out to do some load development with RL-17 powder.
I had some of my known accuracy loads I wanted to shoot up so I decided to bang some steel at a grand. Here are the results...ping...ping...pin...you get the picture...eh,...video. Take care and happy shooting!

  • how do you get the little ding sign to come up in your video, and what do I need to do this? Great shooting platform you have and I love the 243s , they will put anything in the keystone on the grd. thanks again

  • @1941pearl I used the video editing feature here in youtube. Go to your videos and you will see all the things you can add to your video.

  • Great shooting! I've got a Rem 700 .243 SVS with a bushnell DOA scope but it's only limited to shoot out to about 600yrds. I didn't think a .243 would carry to 1000? Thanks for the vid. Could you tell me what kind of scope you use?

  • @AdamB9098 The .243 is a outstanding 1000 yard rifle with the right bullets and barrel twist. For 1000 yard shooting you will want heavy, high BC bullets. the 105,107,115,etc. will get you to a grand no problem. But you will need a 1:8 or faster twist. I have heard that the 105 AMAX will shoot in the 1:9 1/4 twist. My scope was a NightForce NXS

  • Thankyou for the info.

  • @Igoman1984 It's like comparing a .22 to a .50 MBG!..LOL. The .243 has next to no recoil at all. It's a very small bullet with a medium cartridge so it gives a very small kick but nothing an 8 year old girl couldn't handle with ease ;)

  • Your buddy musta been out there with a hammer! Haha cool shooting man... I've got an Ackley barrel coming for my 243. Planning on some 95 NBTs and maybe 105 Bergs. Sweet rig you've got there!

  • Very nice shooting. Always good to see you out on the range. You remind me of a modern day "Quigly Down Under", LOL. Take care.

  • @pyropaintball1313 I can really tell you anything. I have no idea what bullet your using, how fast it is shooting, etc. The best way would be to go to the range and shoot it with the ammo you plan on using at different distances and make a drop card for YOUR rifle and ammo. That way you will know exactly how much you need to hold over for a given distance.

  • @BgBamBoo i hav a tikka t3 in .243, my scope has a few mils or incraments for shooting further out.. its sighted in at 100 yds and i have 3 mils under that.. each mil equals 100 yds.. but my question is just because im shooting 300 yds do i need to use my second mil? or does the .243 shoot flat enough that putting the target inbetween the first and second mil work? ps wen i say first mill i mean the 200 yrd mark
