That's the problem with Patti fans, they dont' understand the concept of not oversinging and what true phrasing is. Aretha's version moves me so much more than Patti's. Aretha really gives this song the proper soul grooming it deserves. The way she sings this song makes the words just roll from her mouth and reach your ears and send a message straight to your soul that touches you in such a special, divine way.

If you are talkin about screaming...then you are right there is no comparison...Patti did more screaming than singing. Aretha's tone and pitch are on point...her voice has depth and excellent range, not to mention that her piano playing is evidence that she is an all around excellent musician...

Make it plain, Miss 'Re. Make it plain.

Aretha's is by far much better. She got the messge of the song.

@Emeless I would 3, lol!

Comedian David Brenner is truly touched by her performing. It would be great to be able to have this entire program on DVD, or at least posted here on Youtube. Thank you so much for posting. Her piano playing always gets me.

Lady Soul....

That ain't no joke, that is the truth. Patti lacks soul, she lacks emotion and feeling. She is merely a loud voice.

hahahahaha "Patti Labelle doesn't know the meaning of Soul" WAT A JOKE.
I think you need to get your caregiver to write for you next time hahaha
love you patti & Miss Aretha

You got to be kidding me. Patti doesn't know what the meaning of soul is. It is not a loud voice, nor is it about range. Aretha was changing the face of music. Releasing all of her feelings in every song she sang. If there was no Aretha Franklin than there is no Queen of Soul. Patti is no queen, she is merely a loud ball of mess.

@kerek19 Oh here we go with the childish comparisons of two obvious legendary performers.
I would pay money just to hear aretha play piano and tripple to hear her sing

Oh wow how nice to have family stop by my page. I am an adoring fan and one of many here on YouTube. Glad you enjoyed one of my favorite clips or Aretha. Tell her I said hello!

To hear Aretha is soulful but to hear her accompany herself is divine. Amazingly underrated piano. Thanks for the post.

WOW, that was unexpectantly more touching than I expected because the visual was iffy, but Aretha's vocal and the message truly touched me.

Yes. Sorry about the visual. This was videotaped during an outage of my cable box, so I had to revert to those old "rabbit ears" for reception real quick. The audio does overide the iffy video. Thanks for your comments!
