A selection of reels including "The Maids of Castlebar", "The Humours of Castlefin" and "The Templehouse" played by the Mulcahy family from Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick at the West Limerick 102 Radio Concert in November 2007. All three are multi-instrumentalists and here Mick plays accordion, Louise plays concert flute and Michelle is on fiddle.

  • great music i love it Noel Dublin

  • sounds just like the feis music :DDDD i love it

  • @dwaynedibbly You can play a tune over as many times as you want. About 2 to 3 times is what people normally do but you can play it 1,000,000 if you want.

  • I can't decide which of their videos I like the most!! Excellent :D

  • I do wish they would come back to Elkins WV to teach and play. Mick, how proud you must be to have raised such beautiful and talented daughters. All the best to you and your family!

  • @brkflute Excellent and informative reply. thanks. I've actually been looking into how to memorize tunes and you happened to touch on that nicely too thank you very much.

  • @dwaynedibbly: Short answer is to use your sheet music to kindle your woodstove, make paper airplanes, or some other unsavory purpose. Then listen to the clip for hours on end, until it becomes a part of your soul, then play what you hear & feel. More technically, it is often common, when stringing multiple tunes together such as this, to play each tune all the way through in its entirely about three times before changing seamlessly to the next tune. (there are three tunes in this "set")

  • hey ppl, how do they make the tunes last so long cos when i play the sheet music it only lasts like 30 sec to a minute...

Do they just play the notes over and over? if so how many times is standard cos they dont seem to just be going for as long as they please willy nilly. I know there is the little dots at the end of the bars but still when i play thru its only like 1 minute tops. and I'm even playing it much slower than these guys!! so what am i missing here?

    thanks

  • great stuff, by any standard.

  • @Azeron1

yeah good music but the way their faces look is because they are concentrating i had michelle as a teacher for two years and she told our class that you have to concentrate really hard when playing reels because all the instruments are playin different notes and you gotta try and drown out the sound of the other instruments, thats y they have such a concentrated look on their faces, no disrespect but justt thought id explain
