Palo Alto's Downtown Streets Team helps homeless members of the community find work and begin rebuilding their lives. Eileen Richardson, Executive Director of the Downtown Streets Team, began a mentoring program a year and a half ago to match members of the community with promising members of the Downtown Streets Team ready to take the next step.

Mentees and mentors get together for monthly gatherings, social events, and one-on-one meetings. Although the program has had challenges finding willing community members to serve as mentors, the relationships that have emerged have made positive impacts on the lives of both the mentees and the mentors.

For more information about the Downtown Streets Team or the mentoring program, please see: http://www.streetsteam.com/ or email Carol Garsten, the organizer of the mentoring program, at dstmentorprogram@yahoo.com
