This video details the step by step repair of a HP DV9700 laptop with discrete video. The video shows how to reflow the VRAM, chipsets, and other key components with an added element discussing the importance of heat setting your thermal compound. The chipsets in this system included a Nvidia G86-770-A2, Intel SLA5U, and an Intel SLA5R on this HP SPS 461069-001 motherboard.

  • ok.. i'm talking about this because reflow process temporarily solves the defect, the defect is not always in the bga sphere, but inside the chip.. for this we recommend the replace operation

  • @riccardocosenza Okay, this is logical, but not always the case. I do a number of systems a week and have yet to see a chip that has an internal failure that has been caused by one of three things: heat guns, over use of liquid flux, or copper shims.

  • @riccardocosenza Now reballing is a fix, but if you overheat the new chipset and damage the pad under it or even the joints? What about the traces in the multilayer board? What about the surrounding components that could fail after a reballing? Did the reball save this motherboard? Did it actually help more than a reflow after you spend two hours working to reball? I can sit and preach all day regarding reball or do not reball, but I feel it is excessive if you do not require it.

  • @riccardocosenza That is why testing equipment exist so you can tell if it is a trace or a sphere also.

  • do you speak english?

  • @riccardocosenza Fluently.
