Background Story
In the fall of 2008 noticed that our three and a half year old daughter had a slight tremor in her right hand. We called our ped who indicated it was probably just a concentration tremor but to keep an eye on it and call them if it got worse. Over time, the tremor became worse and we also noticed that she was falling a lot when walking. We made an appointment with the ped but because they didn't think it was an emergency the appointment was scheduled for a couple of weeks out. However, on January 19, 2009 I noticed that she was not using her right had to perform normal tasks such as brushing her teeth or eating and when I asked her to use it she couldn't use it for anything that required fine motor skills. I was scared and we went to the ER.
The doctor looked at her and when he performed the standard neurological exam (checking reflexes) he noticed that her right foot moved the wrong way when he stimulated it. He ordered a stat CT Scan. The results were that she had a tumor in her mid brain in the thalamic region. Surgery at The Children's Hospital in Boston was scheduled to try to remove as much of the tumor as they could for January 29th, 2009. The surgery was a huge success and they removed much of the tumor, but doctors suspect that there may be some tumor cells left in there as her post operative MRI's show some enhancement in the bed of the tumor. The biopsy showed that the tumor was a low grade glioma (or an Astrocytoma Grade II), which is considered benign. Our oncologists have decided to perform MRI's every three months to monitor it and will only proceed with treatment if necessary (treatment would most likey be chemo therapy but surgery is another possibility).

I lift her up in prayers, and your family as well. NO child should have to face such a diagnosis. God Bless.
