We went to the Indonesian Island of Sumba to find and attend a funural, and succeded. The Sumbanese has some unique burial traditions, which you don't find anywhere else in the world. They are making tombs out of large monolits carved out of sandstone. The lid on the tombe is lifted and the body slided inside in the small chamber. The ritual is selebrated by a feast of meat, at the funural at hand, an old vise man, a Raku, had died, and 3 bulls were slaughtered, the meat being distributed to everyone in the village. The horns are later fixed to the outside of his house. The body must sit in the house on a chair for 3 days before the body is buried. The family must bring food to the deciesed for 40 days afterwards. If the spirit is content with the service it will take home in the pointed roof of the house and protect the family.
Yes, it was absolutely a fantastic experience, you should go there some day!
