@shortshortdi There's really no right or wrong. For most, hitting the right side of the bell on the ride is just uncomfortable as all hell. I always strike the left side, palm somewhat down. Trick is to have your fingers do as much of the job as possible. The grip is far more important than how your hand is angled. Grip the stick at the balance point of the stick with your thumb and forefinger, and never close the gap between the side of your thumb and your hand. Loose but tight.

@izzbiz12 im new to drumming and im trying to figure out the correct hand posture, so is it correct for palms to face downward all the time? cuz i have seen people hitting ride cymbal while having their right palms facing the left side, and some ppl hitting ride with their palms facing down.

How the songs/play alongs start when you plays?

?? I'm not to sure what you mean, but some samples are triggered by cymbals and pads - and some i press a play button to start...
