My school has an old Mac SE. Of course, no one can use it it's prett much just for show. Also a TRS-80 and an Apple II.

@maxpolaris99 Linux on Macs is of course interesting to me but I didn't buy these machines to run Linux but to play with MAC OSs. Its a 10 GB HD 512MB ram and 500MHz 68030 I think. So yeah It could handle some Linux but its not a piority for me. I'm more interested in the Mac itself. I have plenty of PC's for Linux.

@Hildron101010 Its 9.1 and I'm all set with that thanx. One thing bugs me. I put a Music CDR in and I can't find the app that is controlling it. A Front End with Stop Pause Play Track would be nice. If I click on a diff track in the CDR window I'm informed me I need OSX . I'm trying to find the controlling app that's playing the music so I can interact with it. Hey I've had the machine for about 2 hours now so I'm not expecting to know everything immediately..

that must've cost a fortune.
If the latest macs cost over $1000 then the classic ones must cost somewhere in the hundred line?
Interesting video.
I have an Imac G3 another Mac SE an Apple GS and an Apple floppy (for the Apple IIe's in my cellar)on the way.
I'm a little curious about linux on the 68020/30's and PPC's I doubt if I'll bother with
Linux on MAC's but how easy was Ubuntu to install? I should check if MAC can run Ubuntu from a LiveCD? I know nothing about Macs. Can they boot from USB?
maxpolaris99 1 month ago
@maxpolaris99 Macs can easily boot up off of USB, you can also install the entire OS right onto an external device, unlike with a Windows installer. Ubuntu was incredibly easy to install on that G4, it's a bit different on EFI-based Macs though because of the bootloader. On my modern Macs, I just run Linux distros inside VM software. And yes, LiveCD is fully supported as well.

@Hildron101010 I just got my iMac G3 unboxed 5 mins ago. It looks nice. I scrounged up a usb kb and thmbtrck ball. Seems to be working fine. Ram? HD? CD? How2find out?
There appears to be a lot of fear and loathing in the Linux community over Microsofts direction in EFI booting, hopefully its unwarranted, time will tell. I just can't imagine Linux perishing from the Earth. What a sad day that would be! Do you have a suggestion on a particular distro to run on a G3 in Live mode.

@maxpolaris99 What version of the operating system are you using? I can then tell you how to find out your specs. I don't recommend using a Live mode for a G3, I would only recommend installing it on the HDD. However, I have not been able to successfully install a Linux distro on a G3 as of now.

Ok. I looked through the comments and the description, so it's justified. What is that catchy music?

@therock557 It's from a royalty-free music website. I'll have to get the specifics later. Last time I checked it, it was down.
