I dedicate this song to my good friend Jeffrey Justin Chapman who was shot to death July 31, 2009. He was a good man. Long Hard Road - Original Song by Robert B. Barron, BearRon Productions, Copyright 1986 1989 2010.
I wrote this song in1986, one day after I wrote Bringing Me Home. I sent my first demo to Randy Owens of Alabama in 1989. Both are truck driving songs. I have not done much with it since. Jeff was a truck driver and he turned me on to Alabama which became my favorite country band. He took great photo everywhere he went.
I am planning on sending it to Trace Atkins, Josh Turner, but Toby Keith would also sound great on this.
Believe it or not, I wrote it for Three Dog Night, just after they got back together for a few months. My firm was sponsoring a 3 Dog concert and I had intended to give it to them at that time. I was to be the MC. Well, 3 Dog broke up again just prior to the concert. The last part reminds me somewhat of their Into My Life off their Cyan LP. Jeff, his brother Craig and I went to a Three Dog Night Concert at Snowbird. Good Times.
I have just re-recorded it and think it is so much better now. I took a few of the photos and a few were taken by my grandparents. I found others online. Thanks for those photos, they really made the video.
The song is about the Ghost Towns in all of us. We just need to get up every morning and do the best we can, even when times get hard.
I am not a great singer, but would like to know want you think of the song.
Also Check out Sade's - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's The Story's and Mitch Ryder's Norton Buffalo & Roy Rogers' Long Hard Road and don't forget to play Alabama's Roll On for my good friend Jeff.
So we know it's a Long Hard Road by now, but check out this song about another friends long hard horse ride. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJOexov3na8

  • 8000, Thanks!!!!!

  • I live on Route 66. I moved to OK from Calif. My house is over 100 years old and looks just like the old houses in your pics. It is one of the first 4 original house that existed in this town. Your video kind of captures all of that and the feeling.

  • @LarryLane07 Thank You. That is so kind of you. That is a pic of my grandmother, and her dog and doll around 1912 in Utah.. I am proud that I still have the photo and doll today. Gram spent a lot of time in Calif. When my dad died, he had a vhs tape of Route 66. I love that history. You may like my song Bringing Me Home. There is a link on Never Been so High. (See the response above.) Enjoy

  • 7000 WOW - Thanks

  • That is one cool dream. I have a few more road songs I need to record. You might like my Lead Foot Down. Not country, but you just might think you are in that 69 Charger. Nice to talk. Enjoy.

  • @bearron : I'm Turkish :) Because of my love for western films, I started to love these kinds of music. I lived in Canada or 6 months. (it's not so different from us much)

When I listen this song I close my eyes and dream I'm on Route 66 with a dirty black 69 Charger R/T :)

  • @bearron : Thank you friend. I love country much. Especially Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. However there are not much people who love country music, so I only have internet and a bar where always sounds country. Thank you much for song suggestions.

I even play Extreme Trucker. (newer version of World of Steel)

  • @bearron I should have typed Folk not Foke. But you can call it whatever you want. Where are you from?

  • @Dardanos It is sort of a mix of country and rock. Some people call it Foke or Amaricana. Do don't know. You might like my Bringing Me Home, (Original truck driving love song) or Never Been So High (Original Train Song) or Barron/Levesque Why Do I Ride? (Original horse song) or Winterwood Crossing (Original Song)

  • Do you have other songs? What does this type music called?
