This was the first aquarium moving bed filter I made so its no way the best. Later ones have much more media and a less frantic action.

I have a co2 reactor in my 55 gallon and was wondering if I could incorporate this idea into it to make one device. Would the CO2 be harmful to the bacteria? I know that O2 is good for it.

CO2 would be no good to drive this filter as you need good air flow. CO2 units only produce a small amount of bubbles. The bacteria rely on an oxygen rich environment to thrive so CO2 would most likely kill them off if used to drive a moving bed filter.
