Hi, jetwaco,
Ceiling height of old AMA rule were, cat1=~35ft, cat2=35~100ft, cat3=100ft~.
Current AMA and FAI rule are, cat1=~8m, cat2=8~15m, cat3=15~30m, cat4=30m~.

On July 26, 1971 (The 71 USA NATS) Marty Thompson of the USA set a record in Category 2 of 1 minute and 4.2 seconds with a 18 inch span Sweepette. (October 1972 American Aircraft Modeler magazine)That was over 30 years ago dude. So what is the big deal here? Ron Whittman of the USA with his 22 inch span Supersweep set a time record of 1 minute and 30 seconds in the catagory 3 class. This was published in April 1974 American Aircraft Modeler. That was still over 30 years ago!

OK so to be exact, this is FAI F1N subclass: 'ceiling 8m - 15m' world record as can be seen at records, fai, org.
For information. unlimited ceiling indoor glider 'ceiling over 30m' best time is much longer: 1 min 30.7s, the same person. Only under 8m New Zealand rules: 49.8 s.
very strange people did 62 s in poland around 1980 in Hala Ludowa in Wroclaw registered as Polish IHLG record (500mm class), some americans did around 68-70 in the USA at that times.

Appreciate for information. I'm not so familiar with records established around the world, however the video shows the exact WR flight approved by FAI for category two ceiling hight.
