Organized Retail Crime Press Conference

On November 2, I held a press conference with Congressman Delahunt on Organized Retail Crime. More than simple shoplifting, Organized Retail Crimes are sophisticated criminal enterprises that steal approximately$30 billion worth of goods each year from U.S. retailers. I filed legislation to combat ORC and together with Congressman William Delahunt, we called on strengthing our laws to ensure law enforcement has the tools in place and prosecutors will have the penalties to make these crimes a serious felony.

Currently, criminals are charged with the relatively minor offenses of shoplifting or larceny over $250. This is a clear cut example of the punishment not fitting the crime.
