Two Of Exodus' Founders Come Out As 'Ex-Ex-Gay'

Michael Bussee, one of the founders of Exodus International, the largest "exgay" organization in the nation is now a gay man who speaks out against Exodus. After co-founding Exodus Bussee fell in love with another "ex-gay" Gary Cooper. As expected Bussee and Cooper lost their entire church social network and remained silent about the "exgay" issue for many years. Cooper contracted HIV and shortly thereafter saw the Rev. Lou Sheldon of the Traditional Values Coalition claiming Exodus was "tremendously successful" to justify his war on the civil rights of gay people. Bussee and Cooper felt they could no longer remain silent and came out in the media as "ex-ex-gay" declaring conversion therapy as ineffective.

People don't understand that this world system and all its temptations is nothing but a matrix that appeals to our sinful nature. We have a desire to be loved and accepted, but that often gets twisted through the corruption of this world. Homosexuality is simply one corrupt manifestation of that. So yes, we ARE to deny ourselves. Jesus said one is not worthy to follow Him if they cannot take up their own cross and deny themselves! When we do that, we discover the complete joy and freedom in Him!

I don't know much about how this ministry works, but I wouldn't call a ministry a "fraud" just because you don't agree with the approach. The bottom line is overall change through the Spirit, yes, but there is certainly nothing wrong about attacking a specific sin directly if that's the sin in issue. It's just like Christian drug rehabs. The ones the have the highest success rate focus on being Spirit filled, but its still geared towards a particular struggle. don't be critical
