Hi. I´m uploading this video in an attempt to find someone with the same problem. I have a sleep disorder. I have these sleep twitches/myoclonia all throughout the night in my sleep. They keep me from having deep, restfull sleep. I only get stage 2 sleep. I wake up exhausted every day for years now. I´ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea, narcolepsy, possible sleep epilepsy and depression. No PLMD. Each sleep study has shown a different result, I´m not even sure if I have sleep apnea or not. I get the jerks even when I use my CPAP. I´d appreaciate it if any patient or Doctor who´s had/treated this same problem or similar would contact me. My e-mail address is sjhon_fabio@hotmail.com. I´m clueless on what to do now.

  • hey:

thanks for posting. the thing is i have uncontrolled sleep apnea. i have taken an EEG but nothing showed. i have never had a seizure. what i have is supposed to be due to the breathing efforts/awakenings of sleep apnea. the weird thing is those jumps/jerks aren´t common with sleep apnea. do your jumps disrupt your sleep? are you not having them now that you´re on medication for epilepsy i supose?

    john.

  • they said it was sleep myoclonia, but not epillepsy. i´ve never had a day time seizure, but i´ve always had sleep issues. I have sleep apnea and reflux, so those affect my sleep. i´ve never thought of something else added to the ecuation, but those jumps are so bad sometimes, and unusual. both my parents had a brother with epillepsy though, i don´t know if epillepsy is hereditary. if you wanna write, my e mail is sjhon_fabio@hotmail.com

  • Hey!!! I didn´t see your message until today. I already took one EEg and even one videotelemetry to check for night time seizures/sleep epilepsy and it was ruled out. But now I read all these posts about people testing negative for epilepsy several times and tehn turning out to finally have epillepsy at their last test!!! I don´t know what to do about it, i forgot about epillepsy after that, but the truth is i sltill sleep very poorly and keep having all these weird jerks

  • looks like the movment is coming from below the cam...your legs perhaps. Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. This can be verified at a sleep lab.

  • @hcim71 i don´t have periodic legs movement disorder

  • Thanks for replying. So sorry to hear that,.. but do you get to actually live a normal life? I mean do you sleep well? I live so tired I´m already depressed. I hink they wont prescribe any prolonged EEG test. My sleep deprived EEG and brain MRI were negative. I had 2 uncles with epilepsy though. So, sleep twitches can actually be another symptom of night time seizures (epilepsy) hah? Does your medication for epilepsy make you sleep any better?

  • Both my husband and I suffer from exactly the same seizures, not right away but at about the time one of us relaxes to the point of deep sleep. They are not painful exactly but they do wake us up, if he's jumping, I wake up. Vise versa. We can both get real sleepy and usually the jumping starts AFTER we turn off the tv.

  • Closed induces seizures

  • Probably would help not to have the tv on... Flashing lights while my eyes c

  • I've never been diagnosed, but it looks similar to what i feel when I "sleep." I have more movement in my arms, and have been known to throw violent punches in my sleep. So far i've punched my mom, my ex husband, myex boyfriend, my son and my current boyfriend, all while still asleep.

  • I have epilepsy and get those all night every night on meds. I was diagnosed when I was 13, I am now 41. My epilepsy doesn't show up on an EEG (awake) anyway. The doc said, just because it doesn't show up, doesn't mean I don't have epilepsy anymore. My Grand Mal ones are controlled but the small ones and sleep ones, I'm not sure how big they get in my sleep but I know I have them, they wake me up. I'll have to ask my Hubby if he notices.

  • My father was diagnosed almost 8 years ago with sleep apnea, and uses a CPAP machine at night to sleep comfortably. Before using the machine, he'd have twitches and jitters similar to you, except it was due to the fact that his body was basically gasping for a breath of air. His breaths would be deep during sleep, but he would get caught in it as if he were choking. If I would ever wake him, he'd breathe normallly for a few minutes and then return back to the deep snoring.

  • The TV being on the background is most likely causing some of your problems. After much research on our own and talking to other people, electronic activity in the room you sleep in can be a trigger. Even cell phones just plugged in and not running close to your bed can be a problem. Reduce or eliminate as many electronic disturbances as you can.

  • My 14 yo has a condition exactly like this...she'll be asleep maybe 20 minutes or so and then the arms start flailing...its much like watching a dog dreaming of running. She has a sleep study with thermal brain mapping on 12/7 {today}. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at 20 months. She also started sleep walking {oh joy} recently and it appears she's having absence seizures. Her neuro feels however ~ due to trauma ~ it's a form of PTSD. Hoping for some answers!

  • @SmokinMo11

    Been to the doctor?

  • I have little continuous jerks when I start to fall asleep. I do have epilepsy, simple left temporal lobe seizures. I've never blacked out, but have real strange feelings throughout the day. Worse when I'm stressed or drink. I'm going to an impatient stay on 12/05 for monitoring 24/7, video, etc. They have ruined my life, unable to work, loss of memory. Any symptoms during the day? Not all EEG will catch seizures, but every EEG I've had has been abnormal.
