Cabanyal 2008

The video gives a few impressions of the Cabanyal neighborhood of the City of Valencia in Spain. Cabanyal, which has a treasure of beautiful buildings of the so called "Modernismo popular" from the beginning of the 20th century has been threatened with destruction. The City of Valencia wanted to build a wide avenue right through the heart of the area. Right now this has been stopped by the Spanish government. - "Réconstruccion" is the title of an art installation by Christoph Radke and Nicolaus Schmidt form Berlin. It took place during the "Portes Obertes" (Open Doors) in 2008, an art project initiated by residents meant to make people aware of what was going on in El Cabanyal.
The music is played by young gipsies (gitanos) living in Cabanyal.
