I'm for what this guy is doing, but the second he opened that door, he is breaking the law as well. He is not a police officer and cannot force entry into someones car like that. I hope he continues to help the police with this problem, just do it legally so that the charges stick when it goes to court.

You need to educate yourself on the law. I've been opening car doors for 13 years. The legality has come up before and while its a grey area it has been deemed not illegal as a prosecution wold come down to intent - something I have well established. Also, I do not enter, attempt to enter or break the 'plane' of the vehicle's exterior. Lastly, I've NEVER lost a case with my video evidence regardless if I opened a car door.
