Every week Humane Society staff and volunteers witness the reality that animal lives are spared and heartaches are mended by the gift of a second chance. The kind of second chance that is needed when life doles out circumstances for which no one is prepared -- job loss, divorce, foreclosure, relocation, long-term illness or death of a loved one. These heart wrenching scenarios occur in the lives of families every day; the same families that provide caring loving homes to their companion pets.

Sadly, when faced with circumstances beyond their control, families have to re-prioritize and make sacrifices. Oftentimes this is when the needs of the family pet become overwhelming and the decision is made to "find a new home for the pet."
