Dr Cue goofing around

Dr. Cue popped into The Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks on a Sunday evening and I, Eat Pool, being somewhat in the loop, went there and sure enough - Dr Cue showed the lucky few of us there some of his amazing trick shots.

Word was that Dr. Cue (Tom Rossman) was in town visiting somebody and because that somebody happened to know somebody else who knew somebody involved the Local APA League that he was going to be there, or something like that. Somebody. Something.

This guy is incredible - this is the only video I managed to get while there - Dr Cue explaining two rail kick shots to us using the diamond system.

I also got a DVD and book from him. He said that in addition he has a brand new, just finished, instructional three DVD set out there - but had none with him. I'm looking forward to getting those online.

If you ever have a chance to see Dr Cue in action he is a great guy, very entertaining, very funny, and he will just blow you away with the shots he makes on a pool table..

I wonder - That 15 ball he missed 40 seconds in - subtle - but - do you think he PRETENDED like he missed it on purpose- or did he REALLY miss it on purpose?

Was it a double bluff?

That ball was meant for the "side pocket" he said.

I do think he's that good to do that, I mean, he is a Doctor and all...

Either way very slick Dr. Cue good stuff good stuff!

@rob3c Humans will never be able to shoot parallel shots consistently. You just have to be accurate enough for the ball to travel a parallel path across a pool table, not an infinite length. You only have to be parallel enough to pocket the ball. There is margin for error because the pockets are usually 4+inches. I'm sure a robot could do this with that method. It wouldn't be perfectly parallel, but you can program it to be accurate enough to pocket a ball.

Unfortunately, things aren't so simple. Parallel lines - by definition - never meet. Therefore, the whole idea of a "parallel shift" in kicking is flawed.

What's really happening during the "parallel shift" is that he's using the initial line as a rough guide, and then he makes an adjustment to aim, spin and speed based on his many years of experience.

If you set up a robot that could reproduce a specific spin and speed and aimed it exactly parallel, it would miss. Reality is more complicated!

I think he missed that ball be cause he needed to add that humor at the end. He is a fantastic showman and WOW what a pool player.

I also love the demo on parallel lines but my head was spinning a bit listening to him explain it. It is NOT as easy as he made it look....BELIEVE ME!
