They gave away Sabathia, Lee, Martinez, Francisco, Gutierrez. Players that have found a decent spot on another team and were doing just fine but the Indians couldn't give them a chance, nor enough money. If you're gonna develop a core of players to keep and rebuild the team around, you have to have money to afford to keep them if they become real good. Everyone who becomes good, goes to a better marketed and contending them. If Sizemore has a great year, the Yankees will be looking at him.

The Cleveland Indians are just as bad, they have cheap ownership. What's the point of rebuilding if they are going to start over again after 3 years because players get real good and get traded, or they can't afford to keep them. It's like giving someone $20,000 and telling them to go buy a Rolls Royce, just doesn't happen.

huntington seems to be doing alright.
atleast its not jason shmidt for armando rios or aramis ramierez for bobby hill anymore.littlefield was stupid. rajai davis for matt morris? and we will pay his 10 million dollar salary.... we coulda signed weiters.

Well the prospects we received were good prospects according to how the teams they came from viewed them.
-
nothings wrong with the plan. nuttings just hire these cheap ass talent evaluaters like the gm that cant execute the plan. you gotta spend a little money in management atleast.
-
you throw in matt stairs and they`ll do it. done deal

andy laroche and brandon moss were supposed to be major league ready. how can we expect anything from these prospects if we they cant evaluate major league ready players????????????

I think the Pirates are building to something good. They are finally building the way a small-market team has to build, through the farm system. They have a lot of good looking prospects. Jack Wilson's play has definitely gone way downhill. Freddie Sanchez is oft-injured and would have wanted more money. McCutchen is a much better option than McLouth. No way we coulda resigned Bay. Will the prospects pan out? Will they keep them? We don't know.
-
yup because the Pirates were really doing well with Sanchez and Wilson.
-
I'll give you some Doritos and Sausage links for McCutchen.
It's official, the Pirates are now a AAA minor league farm team for MLB. The Pirates no longer has a major leaguer on its roster. The Wilson and Sanchez trades are the last straw. I'm for boycotting the Pirates until they are forced to sell the team to an owner willing to be competitive by obtaining major league ballplayers. Can't wait for the football season to begin, GO STEELERS!

That's the only way things will start changing in Steel City.
And the message below me was mentioning the Cubs. Ironically, the Pirates draw the biggest crowds when they play the Cubs.

How right you are. Long-suffering Bucs fan here. With the possible exception of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh may have had the best record of any NL franchise during the 70s. Hopefully this lean stretch will end before they start getting compared to the Cubs. Glass half full: any publicity is good publicity, right? Thanks for noticing.

Believe me, you have a long way before you start getting compared to the Cubs.
