Hyperhidrosis is a skin disease. It can be generalised or localised to specific parts of the body. Hands, feet, armpits, and the groin area are among the most active regions of perspiration due to the relatively high concentration of sweat glands; however, any part of the body may be affected.

Hyperhidrosis can also be classified depending whether it is a congenital (hereditary) or an acquired trait. Primary hyperhidrosis is found to start during adolescence or even before and seems to be inherited as a genetic trait. Primary hyperhidrosis must be distinguished from secondary hyperhidrosis, which can start at any point in life. The latter form may be due to a disorder of the thyroid or pituitary gland, diabetes mellitus, tumors, gout, menopause, certain drugs or mercury poisoning. It can be a symptom of temporary illnesses like colds and 'flu or hormonal changes such as periods or menopause. Hyperhidrosis can also be divided into palmar/plantar (symptomatic sweating of primarily the hands or feet), gustatory (sweating whilst eating/digesting a meal) or generalised hyperhidrosis.

A medical diagnosis should always be sought, but if you sweat to an excessive level, there are now many ways of dealing with it.

About Sweaty Betty.
We are a small group of normal people who just happen to sweat a lot. We're not alone - millions of people worldwide suffer from this acutely embarrassing and socially isolating condition, but, because of the negativity and misconceptions surrounding sweating and being sweaty, they attempt to keep it to themselves and suffer in silence. As with all taboo issues, it only takes a few like-minded people to get together to blow a taboo wide apart and tell it how it really is. Hence www.verysweatybetty.com was born. We are committed to raising awareness of Hyperhidrosis and dispel the stigma and ignorance surrounding sweat and sweating.

  • Great video! I am a 28 year old male from the UK and have suffered from HH for about 15 years. It's gradually got worse and affects my face, back, underarms and groin. Anxiety or just been warm set it off so I have to be hugely careful about what I wear and where I go. I will wear shorts and a t-shirt as often as possible, sometimes even in the winter! I think the biggest problem for most sufferers is public perception. It's not seen as a medical condition.

  • @Lexington365 Hiya, thank you! Have you been to the forum yet? There's all sorts of good ideas and products that may help you. I sweat from my scalp to my feet and all we can really do is learn to disguise it and rise above it. I do think you'd benefit from Wrapps. We all swear by them, as do many sportsmen/women. They soak up sweat instead of blocking. Always the best way of dealing with it as no Compensatory Sweating. Do check the forum for explanations :)

  • Hi, I am a sufferer of hyperhidrosis. I sweat everywhere but I did get my hands to stop sweating using the the video "cure sweaty hands, feet, hyperhidrosis" on youtube.

  • @MrGrownMan8819 Hi there, that video is also on our channel! Many of our members have found it useful and I'm glad you have, too. Please come and join in the discussions on our forum, I think you could help many people with your experience of this device, we're always getting questions on it. Take care, Betty.

  • corposcindosis - Anger, Depression and Suicide < I already have these feelings and thoughts going on. Not so much suicide but alot of anger,depression,anxiety,stress... it's threw the roof

  • @lKingCobra Last June we know someone who had ETS for her hands and underarms. She didn't sweat a huge amount but she was determined all the same. By August, she reported that her back, bottom, crotch and legs were sweating so bad that she'd do anything to turn back the clocks. Compensatory Sweating will happen post-surgery - I can't go into it here but I can explain it much better when there's more space to do so - have you joined our forum? Please do, you can register for freebies too.

  • I'm a auxiliaryhyperhidrosis sufferer since my teenage years. I'm now 32... I'm so glad to see that I'm not alone....

  • @lKingCobra You poor thing, it's always really hard for us to hear when someone is feeling so bad. Everyone with severe sweating goes through this at some time or another. We're told that sweating is harmless - I'd like to hear them say that when they're soaked from head to foot on a daily basis. Corposcindosis is what happens after ETS surgery, it's what ruins lives. I wish I had a $ for everyone who has told me they'd rather have their 'old' sweating back again - ETS is irreversible.

  • @VerySweatyBetty, I've tried atleast 3 different creams and liquids and non have worked what so ever they seem to be a waste of time and money. My case is very severe not just clammy or moist i absolutely pour sweat out. I highly doubt any of these creams, gels what ever will work what so ever on me. I'm so lost with the help i feel that it's never gonna go away. I need help really really badly my social life doesn't excist it's pitiful.
