East Timor President's Speech After Assassination Attempt

East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta, was critically wounded in an assassination attempt in February. He speaks publicly for the first time today, thanking medical staff for saving his life.
Ramos-Horta didn't make a political speech. But he says he wants to use the week before Easter to thank world and church leaders for their support.

[Jose Ramos-Horta, East Timor President]:
"Today, the first time I am able to speak publicly although I am refraining from making political speech, this being Easter week I wish to use this opportunity to thank all who prayed for me, who looked after me, who cared
for me following the assassination attempt on me by Mister Alfredo Reinado and Mister Salsinha a month ago. I thank the government of Australia, the Prime Minister, the people of Australia for all the support I received."

The public statement was filmed in a Darwin hospital.
